The launch of e-Rezeki was held simultaneously throughout the country by the Prime Minister, Yang Amat Berhormat Dato' Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak in Kuala Lumpur where a session of interaction with participants from other launch sites including Kedah took place through video conferencing.

In Kedah, the launch was officiated by the Kedah State Executive Member, who is also the Chairman of the Science, Innovation and Information Technology, Communication Technology and Human Resources Committee, Dato' Mohd Noor Norsabrina who represented Kedah Menteri Besar.

Dato' Sabrina said at a press conference, e-Rezeki is a platform for individual under 40 years of age with a household income below RM3050 a month to digitally generate part-time income.

"The purpose of e-Rezeki is to expand the benefits of ICT and help increase people's income.

"Through this programme, participants will be profiled, provided with training and internship, registered as digital workers and guided to perform digital tasks thus eventually generating revenue," she said.

There are four (4) e-Rezeki Centres called Digital Worker Centre (DWC) which have been appointed by the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) and one of them is KDTC, apart from those in Terengganu, Pahang and Kuala Lumpur.

In Kedah, she said, KDTC aims to train about 1000 people each year in accordance with its current capabilities and on-site facilities.

In conjunction with the launch of the e-Rezeki, UUM through the School of Computing (SoC) and ITU-UUM also took part in the exhibition and showcased an ICT exhibition which involved a number of products such as Bacamax, robot showcase, Refleksi Hisbah Akhlak Journal and ITU Showcase, besides providing preparatory training for participants consisting of members of staff from the 1Malaysia Internet Centre and BDD Community Centres under the auspices of the Alor Setar City Council (MBAS).

Also present at the ceremony were the UUM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) Prof. Dr. Hassan Ali who represented UUM Vice- Chancellor; Alor Setar Mayor Dato' Mat Noh Ahmad and UUM officials.
